1Lesson 1 — Variables, Types and the Print Function

Python is dynamically typed — you don't declare the type of a variable. name = 'Sipho' # str age = 17 # int height = 1.73 # float is_matric = True # bool print(f'{name} is {age} years old.') The f-string is the modern way to interpolate variables — faster and cleaner than str.format() or the % operator.

2Lesson 2 — Lists, Loops and List Comprehensions

marks = [72, 84, 91, 65, 78] average = sum(marks) / len(marks) # 78.0 passed = [m for m in marks if m >= 50] List comprehensions are the Pythonic replacement for a for-loop that builds a new list — faster and reads like English: 'give me m for every m in marks if m ≥ 50'.

3Lesson 3 — Functions and *args, **kwargs

def greet(name, greeting='Hello'): return f'{greeting}, {name}!' Default arguments must come AFTER positional ones. *args collects extra positional arguments into a tuple; **kwargs collects extra keyword arguments into a dict. Use them when you don't know how many arguments the caller will pass.

4Lesson 4 — Working with Files & Exceptions

with open('data.csv', 'r') as f: lines = f.readlines() The 'with' statement automatically closes the file even if an error occurs. Wrap risky code in try / except: try: value = int(user_input) except ValueError: print('Please type a number') Never catch a bare 'except:' — it swallows KeyboardInterrupt and hides bugs.

5Project — Web Scraper in 30 lines
